The Antwerp cycling scene

Antwerp sits in the cycling-mad region of Flanders, a short ride from the heartland of the Spring Classics. The terrain in and around the city is almost entirely flat: polders, the Scheldt and Rupel river paths, the Kempen heathland and farm roads make for fast, social road riding rather than big climbs. The everyday bike infrastructure is genuinely strong, with extensive segregated lanes, a dense 'fietsknooppunten' node network for navigation, and the iconic Sint-Annatunnel under the Scheldt linking the centre to Linkeroever. Club life is organized and traditional: many groups ride in tiered A/B/C pace groups out of a neighbourhood bike shop and finish at a café.

Start here

Veloclub 't Zuid runs the most accessible regular city rides, departing from the Amici di Bici shop in Antwerp-Zuid with separate A/B/C pace groups so newcomers aren't dropped. South of the city, CRNK is a younger, social Saturday-morning group out of Boechout. For navigation, learn the Flemish 'knooppunten' (numbered node) network — it makes self-guided loops along the Scheldt and into the Kempen trivial to plan.

Veloclub 't Zuid

A convivial Antwerp road club formed in 2023 from the merger of WTC twintigachttien and the Amici di Bici shop crew. It runs two weekly group rides split into three pace groups — A (~32+ km/h), B (29-31 km/h) and C (27-29 km/h) — so riders of different abilities can ride together and regroup. The club motto is 'samen uit, samen thuis' (together out, together home): they wait for punctures and mechanicals, making it one of the more welcoming structured clubs in the city.
