The Austin cycling scene

Austin's road scene runs on the Hill Country west of town: endless 360-style loops with real climbs. Gravel access is excellent. Summer is so hot most weekend rides start at 6 AM. CX scene exists but is overshadowed by gravel.

Violet Crown Cycling

An Austin road club whose free weekly group rides span every level, from a beginner-intermediate Saturday cruise to an advanced 18-20 mph Bagel Ride. Most rides launch from Mellow Johnny's Bike Shop downtown, and membership is just $45/year ($1 for juniors) if you want to race or get team apparel.

Bike Austin Rides

Bike Austin's volunteer-led rides program is the city's most newcomer-friendly on-ramp: rides are no-drop and led by a trained ride leader unless noted otherwise. The calendar lists rides nearly every day, rated by intensity (E through AA) and hilliness so you can pick one that matches your fitness before showing up.

Breakfast Club ATX

A community-driven Austin riding crew best known for its big monthly supported ride with vehicle escorts and a pace group for everyone, drawing hundreds of riders. Also runs Babes Rides for women, women-identifying, and non-binary cyclists twice a month from its East Austin clubhouse.

Austin Ridge Riders

Austin's mountain bike club, advocating for trails and riders since 1987 with 600+ members. Its free Sunday group rides at Walnut Creek Metropolitan Park are explicitly no-drop and split into pace groups from beginner (4-6 miles) through advanced (15-20 miles), making it an easy place to start off-road.
