The Bangkok cycling scene

Bangkok's road scene is shaped by two realities: brutal traffic and tropical heat, and a world-class car-free training loop. The Happy & Healthy Bike Lane ("Sky Lane") is a 23.5 km asphalt circuit around Suvarnabhumi Airport, opened in 2014 and expanded with a faster "purple" lane in 2017, and it's the gravitational center of the city's serious road riders. Most fast group rides leave at dawn to beat the heat and the cars, heading north onto the quieter rural roads around Pathum Thani and Nonthaburi. There is also a deep university and club tradition, including Chulalongkorn's engineering-faculty road club.

Start here

If you have your own road bike, the Sunday-morning peloton rides (GOTP / Humans of the Peloton) from north Bangkok are the established entry point for fast, social distance riding. If you're newer or want a car-free environment, ride or rent at Sky Lane around Suvarnabhumi, which is open daily and has rest stops, health stations and bike rental. Confirm meeting points and times via each group's Facebook before showing up, as they are community-run and schedules shift.
