The Brooklyn cycling scene

Brooklyn is where serious New York cyclists actually live. The 3.35-mile Prospect Park loop is the unofficial training circuit; laps start at 5:30am in summer. The Brooklyn Greenway opens car-free corridors south to Floyd Bennett Field; fast group rides cross over the GW Bridge into the Palisades and 9W. Gravel pulls toward Long Island's South Shore. Williamsburg and Greenpoint anchor a dense shop scene.

Start here

NYCC and CRCA host structured group rides; for casual entry, the Prospect Park dawn loops are open to anyone who shows up. For distance, fast groups cross the GW Bridge onto 9W.

Group rides & cycling clubs

2 clubs

New York Cycle Club (NYCC)

New York's largest recreational road club, organizing classified A/B/C rides through an online Ride Library. Its standout on-ramp is the SIG (Signature Training Series): a free, progressive group-riding program run by experienced ride leaders since 1986. The C-SIG starts from Prospect Park and needs no prior group-riding experience; a D-SIG covers gravel.

Century Road Club Association (CRCA)

One of the oldest racing clubs in the country and New York's racing home. Runs the CRCA Club Series and fields multiple teams: the competitive, structured end of the NYC scene for riders who want to pin on a number.
