The Delhi cycling scene

Delhi-NCR cycling is built around the early morning: to dodge traffic, summer heat (often 40-45C) and winter smog, the serious groups roll out around 5 AM and are home before the city wakes. The ceremonial heart of Lutyens' Delhi, India Gate, Kartavya Path (formerly Rajpath) and the Rashtrapati Bhavan area, fills with road cyclists at sunrise. The capital is also the base of Delhi Randonneurs, the largest endurance/brevet (BRM) club in North India, while the Aravalli hills on the Gurgaon/Haryana fringe give the region its gravel and mountain-bike riding. Dedicated cycling infrastructure remains weak and often encroached, so most riding shares the road; a long-promised Yamuna riverfront cycle track was still in the tender/early-works stage as of 2026.

Start here

For a social road entry point, V4A Cycling & Running Club runs Sunday morning rides out of South Delhi, and Cyclesutra meets at 5 AM near Max Hospital, Sector 19, Gurgaon. If you want long-distance/endurance riding, Delhi Randonneurs organises ACP-sanctioned 200-600 km brevets. Most NCR clubs are free to join and coordinate via Facebook, WhatsApp and Strava rather than fixed paid memberships.

Delhi Randonneurs

The biggest endurance/randonneuring club in North India, organising long-distance brevets (BRMs) since 2011 under Audax India Randonneurs and the Audax Club Parisien (ACP). Rides are non-competitive but serious: self-supported 200, 300, 400, 600 and 1000+ km events with strict time limits, plus team Fleche rides. For experienced riders comfortable with all-day-and-night distances; reliable lights and a road-ready bike are essential.

Pedalyatri

A large, long-running Gurgaon community (started around 2008-2011, reportedly 2,000+ riders) that spans everyone from first-timers to serious enthusiasts. Weekday rides run roughly 25-30 km and weekend rides 50-60 km, mixing NCR road riding with Aravalli trails toward villages like Sohna and Damdama Lake. No membership fee: you just have to enjoy riding outdoors.

Noida Cycling Club

A welcoming, beginner-and-intermediate-friendly club on the eastern (Noida) side of NCR, known for its pre-dawn weekend rides: riders gather before sunrise, often around 5 AM, with ride captains who manage the group and help newcomers and struggling riders. Scenic short-to-medium rides to city landmarks (e.g. Chandni Chowk). Free to join.
