The Muscat cycling scene

Muscat is a long, thin city wedged between the Gulf of Oman and the jagged Al Hajar mountains, and its cyclists ride that seam. The scene is overwhelmingly road, built around dawn starts to escape the heat: the big organized rides roll out from Qurum Park around 5:45 AM, and the weekly social ride meets at Qurum at 6 AM. Flat seafront spins along the Mutrah Corniche and the Al Mouj waterfront give way to the area's real draws — the climbs out toward Al Amerat and the coastal grind up Qantab Road toward Barr Al Jissah. The season runs roughly October to April, when mornings are cool and dry; that window also brings the pro peloton for the Muscat Classic and the Tour of Oman, whose queen stage finishes inland atop the legendary Green Mountain (Jabal Al Akhdar). Gravel and MTB exist out on the wadis, but tarmac and early light define riding here.

Start here

The easiest way in is the long-running Muscat Cycling group, which gathers casual riders every Friday at 6 AM in Qurum and coordinates via its Facebook page. For shop-led culture, plug into CycleKom (a bike shop and coffee-corner community space, active on Instagram as @cyclekom) or Muscat Bikes (@muscat_bike_shop), which runs weekly social rides and the annual Wadi Dayqah Challenge. Newer or track-curious riders can try the Muscat Track Cycling Club on its traffic-free 1 km karting circuit. Most coordination happens on Facebook and Instagram, with riders syncing routes on Strava.
