The Singapore cycling scene

Singapore's road scene runs almost entirely before sunrise: serious bunches roll out around 5:00-6:00am to beat the heat and traffic, typically looping the relatively quiet north and west (Mandai, Lim Chu Kang, Old Upper Thomson) or punching out a 125-130km 'Round the Island' (RTI). It is flat and hot, so the challenge is pace and distance rather than climbing. The two giants are ANZA Cycling (300+ members, strong on-road discipline and an English-speaking expat core) and JoyRiders (Singapore's largest recreational community, 2,000+ members, founded 2006). NParks' Park Connector Network and the growing 150km Round Island Route give recreational riders a near-traffic-free way to circle the island, while Ketam Mountain Bike Park on Pulau Ubin is the island's only IMBA-standard MTB venue.

Start here

Both ANZA Cycling and JoyRiders run beginner-friendly 'newbie' induction rides that meet pre-dawn near Thomson Road and roll at a capped, no-drop pace. ANZA holds its Induction Ride for newcomers on the first weekend of each month; JoyRiders' Newbie Train and Longhouse newbie ride are weekly. For shop-led social rides and the RCC chapter, the Rapha Clubhouse in Tanjong Pagar is the city-centre hub.

ANZA Cycling

One of Singapore's two biggest road clubs, with 300+ active members riding around the island nearly every day of the year. ANZA is known for strong on-road discipline, a strict code of conduct and a large English-speaking/expat membership. Rides span the full spectrum, from short 25-30km no-drop social loops focused on coffee and chat, to bunches that punch out the 125km 'Round the Island' (RTI) or head north into Malaysia.
