The Valencia cycling scene

Valencia is Spain's third-largest city and a quietly serious cycling base: warm, dry winters draw pro and amateur winter camps, and the terrain splits cleanly in two directions. South of the city the dead-flat Albufera Natural Park and its rice paddies make for fast, beginner-friendly spins along the coast to El Saler and Sueca. North, the Sierra Calderona Natural Park puts real climbs like El Garbí and Oronet within 40 km of the center, the latter made famous by the Vuelta a España. In the city itself, the 9 km Turia Garden riverbed park is a continuous traffic-free green corridor, and Valencia has invested heavily in protected bike lanes, making it one of Spain's more bike-friendly large cities. The club scene is predominantly Spanish-speaking and federation-organized, with a busy weekend grupeta culture leaving from the old-town gates.

Start here

For the local scene, Komando CCC and the long-running Velo Club Valencia both roll out from the old-town towers (Torres de Serranos / Torres de Quart) on weekend mornings and welcome newcomers. If you don't speak Spanish or just want a guided introduction to the Albufera and city routes, Bike Guy VLC runs small-group tours daily from the historic center. The Federació Ciclisme Comunitat Valenciana maintains a directory of registered clubs across the region.

Komando CCC

An informal road cycling group of friends — 'Casta, Coxões, Categoría' — who ride the roads and mountains of the Valencia region and organize trips to discover new areas. They roll out from the Torres de Serranos in the old town on weekend mornings, with a relaxed, social, all-comers feel rather than a racing focus.

Sociedad Ciclista Velo Club Valencia

One of Spain's oldest cycling societies, founded 31 May 1912 and affiliated with the Unión Velocipédica Española since 1918. It's a non-profit recreational road club running weekend excursions — every Sunday and holiday plus scheduled Saturdays — departing from the Torres de Quart in the city center. The club is explicitly welcoming to newcomers: in its own words you need only 'good humor, enthusiasm, and a sandwich' to come along.

Club Ciclista Rocafort

Founded in 1990 and based in Rocafort just north of Valencia, CCRocafort is a federated road club that runs properly organized weekly outings from early February through late October. Routes are planned in advance with a published departure point and time and a designated lunch stop, and most are offered at two paces — a standard senior pace and a faster '+1' group — that converge for the meal. Rides range across the Valencia, Castellón and Alicante provinces with support-vehicle coverage and federation insurance.

Bike Guy VLC

Not a club but the de facto English-friendly entry point to riding in Valencia: a multiple-award-winning small-group guided tour operator running daily city-to-beach rides, an evening Bike & Tapas ride, and an all-day Albufera trip with a boat cruise and paella lunch. Groups are capped at 10 (minimum 4) and leave from the historic center, making it an easy first ride for visitors and newcomers before plugging into the local club scene.
